Charlie Ryan is a contemporary artist and designer based on Bunurong / Boon Wurrung Country in the hinterland of the Mornington Peninsula, Australia. Born in 1984 in Melbourne, he was mentored by his father, artist Gerald (Gee) Ryan, who instilled in him a deep appreciation for traditional painting styles and a love of colour. Charlie later studied at the Brighton Bay Art, Design and Photography Program in Elwood and the Arts Academy at the University of Ballarat.
Charlie's artworks explore the interconnectedness of nature, selfhood, kinship, and community. He predominantly creates formed natural abstracts, using metaphors from nature to tell stories about our relationship with the environment and each other. His notable series include 'Long Grass' and 'Cocoon,' which he has exhibited in various galleries, including Artisans of Barossa and Butterfly Gallery.
Charlie's work has been featured in Art Edit Magazine, where he discussed the importance of exhibition presentation and the interconnected narratives within his series.
