Fiona Murphy
Born 1958, Melbourne, Australia. Lives and works in Melbourne.
Fiona Murphy is a contemporary Australian artist renowned for her organic, handbuilt ceramic and mixed-media sculptures. Her work explores the intersection of natural and constructed worlds, drawing inspiration from organic forms and processes. Murphy's practice encompasses large-scale installations, such as Reef Lab (2013), which reflects on fragile ocean ecosystems, and Melt (2013), evoking global warming through fragmented iceberg-like sculptures.
Educated at Box Hill Technical College, Victoria College, and Monash University, Murphy has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally. Her work is held in major public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, and Artbank.
Murphy's art bridges the tactile and conceptual, inviting viewers to engage with the fragility and resilience of the natural world through sculptural forms that are both visually compelling and thought-provoking.
