Kate Briscoe is a Sydney-based artist whose evocative mixed-media works delve into the geological textures and histories of the Australian landscape. Born in 1944 in England, she migrated to Australia, where she completed her Master of Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales. Her artistic practice spans over five decades and includes more than 50 solo exhibitions across Australia, as well as international showcases in Korea, Beijing, the UK, and the US.

Briscoe’s work is characterized by the use of sand mixed into paint, creating layered surfaces that mimic the erosion and stratification found in natural rock formations. This technique allows her to explore the tactile and temporal qualities of the earth, reflecting on the passage of time and the stories embedded within the land .

Her pieces are held in major public collections, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Parliament House in Canberra, and the Newcastle Regional Gallery .
