Robert Hague
Born 1967, Rotorua, New Zealand. Lives and works in Melbourne.

Robert Hague is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, printmaking, film and video. Working in marble, bronze, steel and resin, his refined yet ambiguous forms reference both classical traditions and contemporary concerns, often balancing elegance with underlying tension. After moving to Australia in 1985, Hague first exhibited paintings before shifting his focus to sculpture, gaining recognition at Sculpture by the Sea (1998) and winning its inaugural Director’s Prize in 1999. From 1999–2003 he apprenticed with renowned sculptor Ron Robertson-Swann, further developing his mastery of materials and form.

His work has since been shown in major exhibitions across Australia, including a decade-long retrospective Deca: 2003–2013 at Deakin University. In 2020 he won the Montalto Sculpture Prize. Hague’s artworks are held in the National Gallery of Victoria and numerous other public and corporate collections.
