Siobhan Kelley
Siobhan Kelley lives and works on Boonwurrung Bunurong Country. Her practice spans three interconnected elements: plein air painting, studio painting, and sewn works. Working outdoors, she paints the foreshores, back beaches, and grasslands near her home, responding to light, colour, and form with acrylics. These studies inform her studio paintings, which draw from photographs and memory to create works ranging from bold, graphic compositions to organic, atmospheric reflections. Alongside painting, Kelley has intermittently explored hand-sewn works on paper for over thirty years, stitching images inspired by urban materials such as weatherboard, brick, and corrugated iron.
Kelley has undertaken residencies at The Gatekeepers Cottage, Police Point, the Melbourne Aquarium, Courthouse Gallery + Studio in Port Hedland, and Artist House in Carnamah. She holds a Master of Visual Arts from the Victorian College of the Arts (2006) and has been shortlisted for major prizes including the John Leslie, Glover, and Mosman Art Prizes.
